SWG Energy Group recently hosted a courtesy visit from i-CATS University College, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Emeritus Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohamad bin Kadim Suaidi, together with their strategic partner, Emeritus Institute of Management Pte Ltd, on 23 June 2026.
The engagement provided an opportunity for us to exchange perspectives on strengthening collaboration between industry and academia. SWG Energy Group’s Chairman Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg emphasised the importance of deeper private sector participation in shaping higher education to ensure that academic programmes remain relevant, responsive to evolving industry requirements, and capable of producing future-ready graduates.
A key area of discussion focused on human capital development, particularly in support of emerging Green Steel Technologies that the Group is actively exploring. We highlighted the need for specialised talent pipelines, executive education, and targeted upskilling initiatives to support the transition towards low-carbon industrial processes and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
i-CATS University College shared its ongoing initiatives through the i-CATS Digital Business School (i-DBS), developed in collaboration with Emeritus Institute of Management Pte Ltd. These programmes provide access to executive education in partnership with leading global universities, enabling professionals to gain international exposure, best practices, and globally recognised credentials. We see strong alignment in exploring collaborative pathways to support leadership development and workforce transformation in Sarawak.
Following the discussion, we hosted the delegation for a tour of SWG Energy Group’s facilities and innovation showcase. The visit covered our ongoing initiatives in sustainable energy solutions, hydrogen-based applications, industrial engineering, and advanced manufacturing. This provided a platform to demonstrate our continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and technology-driven growth.
We look forward to strengthening partnerships with academic institutions such as i-CATS University College to support the development of a highly skilled workforce aligned with the future needs of industry, particularly in advancing green and sustainable technologies.
