SWG Energy Group Opens SWG Green Industrial Complex & Decarbon Hub in Kuching

SWG Energy Group has officially inaugurated the SWG Green Industrial Complex & Decarbon Hub at Demak Laut Industrial Park in Kuching, marking a significant milestone in the Group’s mid-long term growth and strategic development.

The opening ceremony was graciously officiated by The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Premier of Sarawak. The ceremony was held in the distinguished presence of Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government; Yang Berhormat Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability; Yang Berhormat Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), Yang Berbahagia Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), and other dignitaries.

The SWG Green Industrial Complex & Decarbon Hub has been established as an integrated platform consolidating SWG Energy Group’s core capabilities in steel structures integration, engineering solutions, hydrogen-related applications, cleaner fuel technologies and future-ready infrastructure development. Beyond its function as a physical facility, the Complex represents the Group’s strategic commitment to contributing meaningfully to Sarawak’s transition towards a sustainable, resilient and industrially advanced economy.

Through this development, SWG Energy Group seeks to further strengthen local industrial capabilities, advance practical and scalable decarbonisation initiatives, and support the development of strategic sectors including green steel, low-carbon methanol and future green industrial technologies.

Taking inspiration from the vision and guidance shared by Yang Amat Berhormat Premier of Sarawak, SWG Energy Group aims to progressively move beyond steel structures integration towards establishing a more complete green steel value chain through the adoption of advanced technologies, innovation and strategic partnerships. This includes exploring opportunities from green steel production and processing to high-value downstream applications, supporting Sarawak’s ambition to develop a competitive and sustainable green industrial ecosystem.

The Complex is designed to address both current industrial requirements and emerging opportunities within the green industrial transformation journey.

In conjunction with the inauguration, SWG Energy Group formalised a series of strategic collaborations through the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), underscoring its commitment to talent development, applied research, technology transfer and industrial innovation. MOUs were exchanged between SWG Energy Group and i-CATS University College, as well as between SWG Energy Group, Tianjin University and Guangdong Gulf Power Resources Co., Ltd.

The collaboration with i-CATS University College is aimed at developing a highly skilled and future-ready workforce to support Sarawak’s evolving industrial and energy landscape. The partnership will focus on advancing capabilities in petrochemical and process engineering, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, and enhancing targeted talent development in alignment with the State’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), particularly in fostering high-value and knowledge-driven industries.

The collaboration with Tianjin University and Guangdong Gulf Power Resources Co., Ltd. is intended to advance bilateral and regional cooperation in low-carbon energy development. This includes the deployment of advanced internal combustion and alternative fuel technologies, with a focus on improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions intensity, strengthening local technical expertise, and catalysing higher-value industrial activities across the energy value chain.

These initiatives collectively reflect SWG Energy Group’s continued commitment to supporting Sarawak’s advancement from green energy generation towards integrated green infrastructure, cleaner industrial solutions and sustainable economic growth.

The opening ceremony was successfully held with strong support and participation from all parties. SWG Energy Group conveys its sincere appreciation to The Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, all honourable guests, distinguished dignitaries and invited attendees for their gracious presence and for their valuable contributions in making this occasion a resounding success.
